The liquid currently comes in two hardware formats, round and rectangular.

  • The liquidTT is a round format, which is designed to fit perfectly inside the OEM vent from the MK1 TT (Model Years 1999-2006).
  • The other liquid format is a rectangular printed circuit board (rather than the round board used in the liquidTT).  This unit uses the exact same hardware components as the round unit, but the printed circuit board is reduced in size to the minimum possible.  This allows the rectangular format liquid to be installed in locations that are much smaller than the original design - Get Creative!  The mounting tabs and the "joystick" on the edges of the PCB can be removed individually.  The minimum size possible for the board (with all tabs removed) is 39 mm x 57 mm - this is the same as the physical package of the LCD display itself.

As an authorized distributor for Race Diagnostics, MCPi is able to provide full support of the liquid, including upgrades to the software on the unit.  Software updates for the liquid are provided free of charge if the unit was originally purchased through MCPi (see note), though the end user is responsible for getting the unit to MCPi, and for return postage.

  • Note:  If the unit was not purchased through MCPi, the first software update will be charged a $25 fee.  Subsequent upgrades will be performed for the cost of shipping only.

liquid Vehicle Compatibility

The following cars are known to function with the liquid.  If "Non-Supported Functions" are listed, all other functions are confirmed operational on that model/year:
If your model is not noted hein the tables above, click this link to see a procedure on how to determine if your car is compatible.  This procedure requires the use of a VAGCOM tool, available from RossTech.  It must be the older unit that does NOT support CAN bus cars.

liquid Software Revision History

The current software revision level is:  3.50

If you have an older version of software on your liquid, it can be updated by sending the unit to MCPi.  Please contact us at sales@mcpii.com to arrange for the software upgrade service.  We will need the serial number for your liquid, which is displayed on the "password entry" screen  when the unit is initially powered on.

The 3.50 version of the software added the following updates:

  • Added alternative boost estimate measurement based on MAF values, useful for cars with no MAP (boost) sensor or cars which boost beyond the limit of the MAP sensor.
  • Torque peak value now displayed in BHP graph when Torque overlay is selected.
  • Gridlines now added when graphs are halted.
  • Option to add boost line to Dyno plot added.

The 3.30 version of the software added the following updates:

  • TT MK2 support
  • Golf MK5 support
  • A3 8P support
  • Other additional model support, not yet fully defined.

The 2.52 version of the software added the following updates:

  • Imperial or Metric units can be set independently for the different gauge and graph types
  • Extended graph and gauge scaling from 200bhp/ftlb to 500bhp/ftlb
  • Second multi gauge display added (Air, Coolant, N75, Boost)
  • Speed and RPM  display added
  • Auto power off function added to most displays on engine off
  • Auto power off function added to most displays on engine off
  • Auto power off function in main displays after 1 minute of non use
  • Auto return to last gauge displayed on turn on
  • Diesel 1.9Tdi engine support added
  • Selectable BHP/Torque calculation method between ECU MAF and Torque data

The 2.06 version of the software added the following updates:

  • Made pasword more secure

The 2.05 version of the software added the following updates:

  • Changed fault code display to show up to 12 fault codes, previous was a maximum of 4
  • Fixed negative temp display issue
  • Inserted more exit points in the multi gauge display
  • Increased delay time in multigauge from 5s to 6s before fetching oil temp to solve p[roblems on S3 and Leon
  • Fixed "COMMS ERROR AFTER RESET" issue

The 2.04 version of the software added the following updates:

  • Software fix for the remote joystick issues
  • System reset forces screen brightness to max

The 2.03 version of the software added the following update:

  • Added a single display graph showing all the following data at once:
Intake Air Temp
Water Temp
Oil Temp
Exhaust Gas Temp

The 2.02 version of the sotware added the following updates:

  • Fixed dyno text positioning for metric units
  • Added back in code for error handling
  • Modified comms routine to handle other cars and do an auto baud rate detect
  • Added French option
  • Added special French characters
  • Added exhaust temp alarm to trigger at 950 degC, alarm can be turned on and off with a right click and alarm trigget level can be changed with cursor up and down.
  • Fixed exhaust temp alarm bug that sometimes turned off the back light
  • Moved dyno results to left by 3 pix and right hand axis text by 2 pix
  • Added Frinnish option
  • Added special Finnish characters
  • Commented out line 244 of the staretcf.c /* zero initialize the .sbss section */
  • Moved 0-60/100 text to right and bottom so as not to clash with line
  • Modified code so that setup variables are maintained through a software rest, this means that a customers setup will be kept until a power off.

The 2.01 version of the sotware added the following updates:

  • New comms routine that automatically detects communication baud rate on start up with the engine management and the dash, at the first sign of comms problems the unit ceases trying to communicate and drops back to the main menu. This should prevent lock-ups on the Oil Temp screen
  • New comms routine improves compatibility.  Most Pre-CAN VAG cars are now compatible (known exceptionss are 2004 VW R32 and Audi MK1 TT with V6 engines).

The 1.07 version of the sofware added the following updates:

  • Graph plot feature added to display timing pull.
  • Peak hold capability added to most of the gauge displays.

Accessories

For the MKIV Golf, MCPi has developed a vent insert that replaces the factory vent.  There are two sizes available, small and large.

The small vent replaces the OEM moveable vent that is installed above the headlight switch.  This new vent is able to be moved up and down, and has openings to allow airflow.  This vent does not allow any side-to-side direction adjustment.  The opening and closing of the air flow continues to function using the OEM flow control dial.

The large vent replaces any of the remaining three OEM vents - two on the center dash, or the passenger side vent (they are all identical).  The large vent uses parts of the OEM vent to retain side-to-side adjustment to the air stream, in addition to vertical adustment, and the ability to open and close the vent using the OEM flow control dial.

Bpth vent styles require the use of the relocated joystick option, and the RJ-45 cable option.  Mounting of the remote joystick is the user's responsibility.
