MCPi - Nicknacks

In the course of developing products, or creating prototypes, MCPi often finds new and interesting technologies. Often, we will adapt these technologies for our specific uses, or take them in new directions than were oringinally intended. Sometimes we limit these developments to our own internal use, but often MCPi is more than happy to provide these new ideas/products to others. That is what this "Nicknacks" page is about. There may be some oddball things available on this page! Links are provided to products, software, or discussion groups where you can learn more about their use, if you don't already know what the items are or what they are used for.

The Fireball V90 is a Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) router, originally designed, built, and marketed by John Hansford. There is a great discussion group on this product on Yahoo! The product is now distributed by Probotix, Inc. This equipment is sold with an adapter to allow it's use with a Dremel 300 rotary tool.

MCPi was interested in a higher powered, more precise tooling spindle option to the Dremel 300, so we designed a holder made to accept the Bosch Colt variable speed router.

Features of the MCPi Bosch Colt Tool Holder:

Bolts directly to the original tooling pattern of the V90, no modifications necessary

Holds the router both in the middle of the tool, for strength, and at the bottom, for stability

Solid cast urethane construction, one-piece design

No sharp edges or inner corners/crevaces makes for easy clean-up

Thumb-screw clamp requires no tools to mount/dismount the tool from the holder

Lightweight, not a "burden" on the driving axes

Available in various colors (Black, White, Red, Yellow, Blue)

Compatible with the OEM Bosch supplied nut and collet, as well as the Precise Bits collet for the Bosch Colt

At a friend's house, helping change the clutch in an Audi TT, I picked up a Dremel, and noticed it had a three jaw chuck attached to it... This got me to thinking... Instead of spending $8 or more for drill bits ground in to 1/4" carbide stock that fit the collet on my Bosch Colt spindle, I could use cheap drill bits in this chuck! MCPi then designed an adapter that would mount in to a 1/4" spindle, and allow the Dremel Chuck to be used for any size drill bit from as large as a #30 (0.1285") to as small as, well, we don't know, but a #60 (0.0400") bits work just fine!

Mounts in to 1/4" collets

Allows use of drill bits (or any other tool) from less than 0.0400" - 0.1285" in diameter

Size/diameter is fully adjustable in the entire fitment range

Can be tightened and loosened by hand, or with a tool (not included)
